This website is a humble attempt to share, contribute, discuss and debate with BSM, Service Assurance, OSS, Telecom software, Enterprise software and Network Management community.

Over the years after seeing repeated failures of BSM and Service Assurance solutions due to sheer lack of awareness, maturity path of solutions and well defined road map which aligns with strategic objectives of the organization – I have decided to put forward my learning in order to positively influence, educate, share and learn with the BSM, SA and NMS community.

Of Course some folks need to be acknowledged here; first would be Doug Mcclure who has been a thought leader and a pioneer in getting the BSM community together. Secondly, I would like to thank Alex White who has been instrumental in fueling the passion about System thinking behind a Service Assurance solution.

So what’s different here from what is already present on the Internet about NMS, Service Assurance, BSM, CMDB?

Excellent question!! I focus on the solution side of the story using the tools as only an enabler. Having used various tools from Vendors like IBM, Telcordia, CA, HP, Ericsson, Cisco et in the commercial arena and Nagios, Cacti, Panoptes, OpenNMS et in open source landscape; my observation is that most tools serve the purpose they are built for and the biggest challenge in the industry is not the lack of tools but the ability of organizations to leverage these tools.

In most solutions users miss Simplicity, Accuracy and Completeness of information provided not because the Tool is unable to get the information but the fundamental underlying principles are not put to practice.

Grady Booch has correctly said that:

Performance = Complexity Process * Team * Tools

So tools is just a part of the complete equation.

Another focus is to build solutions which align with the strategic interest of the organization rather than simply building solution for the heck of it. I have talked about Strategic Capability Network quite a few times now and that was and is a big focus area of this website.

Value driven software engineering is a dimension that completes the full 360 degree view of how we can improve on the ways of working – This is also one of the focus areas for me.
